Northern Strands is growing, and we're on the lookout for a passionate, detail-driven Field Labourer (Fall Protection), whose primary responsibilities are installing and inspecting fall protection systems. This position must have the capability of working at heights, performing repetitive heavy lifting, and operating equipment, such as a forklifts and aerial work platforms. Duties will include installation of anchors points, lifelines, guardrails, and other fall protection components in accordance with engineer-stamped drawings and manufacturer specifications at various client sites. The Field Labourer will also be required to complete all necessary safety and QA/QC documentation to ensure compliance with company and industry standards. What You’ll Be Doing
- Install fall protection systems and conduct inspections at various customer sites under the direction of the Crew Supervisor
- Provide regular updates to the Crew Supervisor when assigned on separate projects, including job status, issues, questions, and incidents
- Complete all tasks in accordance with the company policies, procedures, and job-specific requirements
- Demonstrate and maintain safe work practices, serving as a role model for working safely at heights
- Perform site inspections of existing fall protection systems and anchors
- Complete all required documentation and maintain adequate records for reporting, tracking, and billing purposes
- Maintain organized inventory, and ensure the fall protection yard area is clean and orderly
- Load and unload materials required for projects
- Operate a forklift in a safe manner to move project materials
- Be willing and able to travel and work overtime as required
- Perform other duties and tasks, as assigned
What You Bring to the Table
- Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent
- Knowledge of, or experience in, fall protection system installation is beneficial
- Previous experience in rigging, working at heights, industrial construction, ironwork, or mining is beneficial
- Strong knowledge of safety regulations and standards, with preference towards detailed understanding of CSA Z259 Fall Protection standards
- Ability to read and interpret project/building drawings and blueprints
- Familiarity and experience in operating a computer or tablet to complete required project documentation
- Strong problem identification skills and ability to communicate clear and effective solutions to field issues to support timely project completion
- Ability to understand and follow instructions
- Mechanically inclined with a strong aptitude for hands-on work
- Physically fit and able to safely lift and handle heavy loads as required
- Valid driver’s License, with preference towards candidates with a ‘G’ endorsement or Class 1A
- Ability to travel and be away from home overnight for up to five (5) consecutive days
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Strong ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to handle competing priorities simultaneously; work well under pressure with time-sensitive deadlines
- Strong time-management skills
- Possess a positive and professional attitude, set a high standard, and convey professionalism at all times
- Any valid safety-related training certificates would be considered an asset (i.e., WHMIS, forklift, fall protection, etc.)
- Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities
