Northern Strands is growing, and we're on the lookout for a passionate, detail driven Group Services General Labourer. This position assists intercompany departments with ongoing projects requiring additional personnel support. Task assignments may include general building maintenance, shipping/receiving, project site assistance and other tasks or projects. As training and skills are acquired, the Group Services General Labourer will continue to be assigned diverse and increasingly challenging tasks.  What You’ll Be Doing

  • Operate forklift, overhead crane, loader, telehandler, or other equipment to load/unload, transport, and store goods
  • Operation of company vehicles, including 1-ton trucks and trailers (e.g., gooseneck, flatbeds, etc.)
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures regarding shipping and receiving to provide backup assistance to the warehouse
    • Unpack, code/tag, and route goods to appropriate storage areas
    • Pick items to fulfill customer requests from Order Desk
    • Assist with loading and unloading of goods from trucks or other conveyances
  • Assist Outside Sales department with delivery/pickup of:
    • Rental equipment
    • New equipment sales
  • Assist in intercompany projects requiring additional personnel resources or support
    • System maintenance, install and repair (in Progressioner, Fall Protection, Suspended Access departments)
    • Mining related inspections (e.g., hoist truck, wire rope, electrical cable)
    • Skip and skip attachment, including maintenance and repair
  • Assist with general facilities maintenance
    • Warehouse/yard maintenance
    • Cleaning
    • Snow removal
  • Assist with cleaning, maintaining, and repairing machinery, equipment, and tools, as required
    • Perform regular equipment checks and maintenance
    • Check fire extinguishers
    • Fluids and greasing maintenance
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned

 What You Bring to the Table

  • Minimum grade 12 or equivalent preferred but not required
  • Previous work experience in construction, landscaping, warehouse operations, mechanic shops, mining, or similar industrial environment is considered an asset but not required
  • Experience working with hand tools and operating machinery is preferred; candidates with limited or no experience may be considered, as internal training can be provided
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Mechanically inclined with a strong aptitude for hands-on work
  • Physically fit and able to safely lift and handle heavy loads as required
  • Must hold a valid Class 5 driving license; additional endorsements are considered an asset
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Possess a positive and professional attitude, set a high standard, and convey professionalism at all times
  • Any valid safety-related training certificates would be considered an asset (i.e., WHMIS, forklift, etc.)
  • Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities
